The Barbecue was created in 24 hours at the 2012 New England LARP Conference (NELCO) Build Your Own Game (BYOG) seminar. The seminar was facilitated by Jeff Diewald. After the seminar on Friday night, the group got together on Saturday morning to figure out what kind of LARP everyone wanted to write. Once the choice was made, it was a nonstop design and writing effort. The Barbecue was the result. The LARP ran early on Sunday afternoon, July 22nd, 2012, with a great cast of players.

Lisa Padol was our all-important Morale Officer. She made sure we were all fed and hydrated. She also did crucial editorial work, reading everything that was written. Her new eyes helped the team fix consistency issues and problems stemming from writing far too late into the night. Her efforts were crucial to the process, and we thank her for it.

We've lost track of all the times and places this LARP has run, but it's been run at Intercon, Time Bubble, Nerd Recess, and other places. It even ran virtually in 2020.
