The Journey of a Single Step
Made Quadrillions of Times

The Journey (is the) Story

This Journey will take 100,000 standard years.

That number strains the existence of even the hardiest software entities. Beings will be born along the way. They will live. They may convert into a purely virtual existence. Even virtual, they may die. There will be accidents. People will leave the Fleet, and others, from distant realms, will join. What are their stories?

The Journey consists of the following sections:

Departure

The Great Attractor Fleet is setting forth, traveling through known parts of the Milky Way, and then out to the lesser-known regions of the Rim. These are stories about beginnings, births, hopes and dreams.

While they should be mostly optimistic, Tales of regret and missing home are also possible.

Crossing Intergalactic Voids

There is little in the deepest, darkest regions between the galaxies. These represent long jumps with few way stations for repair and maintenance. They also hold opportunities for mysteries in the most remote places.

These are also Tales of adulting, and of being trapped in lonely places.

New Civilizations

New galaxies hold new worlds, new people, and new challenges. After crossing the depths of nothingness, this also represents a time where the first departures may occur. These are new places, with new problems — but are they really new, or just the same old issues clad in a different skin?

Where does the Fleet stop for necessary maintenance? Is it all in one system, with one culture, or is the coming of the Fleet a major event for an entire region of space? How do the locals feel about this? What about those who are left out?

These are also Tales of middle age, where changes in leadership and control are important, necessary, and frequently resisted.

Virtual Existence

As the living and embodied continue on, those who have died, or have worn out their life "outside," have moved inward, into the great computational existence at the heart of the Fleet. Is it really that great?

If they have the power to do virtually anything and everything virtual, how long will it take before they grow bored and disenchanted? Or are they in the midst of research that takes 10,000 years, that keeps them excited and "waking" every new day?

How do the virtual interact with the corporal people running the Fleet?

These are also Tales of old age and passing.

Arrival

The end is in sight. The gravity of the Great Attractor is no longer theoretical. How does life change when the end goal is in sight, just a few thousand years away?

These are Tales of endings and new beginnings, of rebirth and renewal.

The characters may be able to see the Promised Land, but this LARP is not going to reach the Great Attractor. That is not the focus. The Journey is the Story.
